I was on my way home from Numurkah after dropping home a friend last night when this
cow bolted out into the road. I
swerved to miss it, and it's good thing too otherwise it would have been a head-on. Its head
hit the left side mirror, and it flew forward
smashing the front passenger side window, showering
glass all over inside of the car. The back door also got a bit of minor
damage. In
Gracie's car no less... She's not too upset. She's come to expect me to smash her car up every now and again.
I'm fine. I was
mighty shook up though. The cow was in better shape than I was. I was
scared at first, then
angry, after I realised that I'd have to pay for it. I could get the owners of the cow to pay for it if I could identify the cow. Fat chance of that. It was all over in a few seconds, and all I saw was the shadow of the cow ambling off into the bushes on the side of the road. Now I just think the whole incident is
funny, looking back on it...
UPDATE: Gracie just came in with a couple of quotes...
$1,200... Okay... I'm
angry again... We can pay about $300 now to fix the window and get the car
secure again, then pay the rest later.
Gracie's insurance company doesn't like us very much. We've made a few claims and we'd like to
avoid raising our premium even more so if possible. Apparently I can make a
complaint to the police and they have to investigate to try and find the owner of the cow. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? If so, I'd
like to know how you fared, or if you've got any advice, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
